To she or not to she

Armed with The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, some rudimentary feminism and a lot of questions, Emma Bentley is here to find out exactly why she can’t play Hamlet. Or Macbeth. Or Iago. Or even just a downright Fool. And not just on stage but in real life! In this semi-autobiographical show, Emma dons the trousers as she tackles the trials and tribulations of playing Shakespeare’s men… without a codpiece.

After a successful Edinburgh run in 2015, To She or Not to She was redeveloped with Katharina Reinthaller as part of the Lyric Hammersmith Evolution Festival and subsequently toured the UK.

Under its new director Katharina Reinthaller, To She Or Not To She developed from its very early days into the show it is now – one that’s really fun to watch, but also has a clear and powerful political message.
