Normal/madness

Our mothers always remain the strangest, craziest people we’ve ever met.
— Marguerite Duras

Kirsty’s mother is inappropriate, embarrassing and definitely unusual. For 25 years, Kirsty accepted crazy as conventional. All mothers are slightly insane, right? But Kirsty’s mother isn’t like all mothers…

If you’ve been raised in madness, who tells you what’s normal?

This solo show is a frank, funny and deeply touching tale of Kirsty McKenzie and her schizophrenic mother. Join Kirsty as she attempts to distinguish her mother from the madness, the one subject no one wants to mention.

I joined the team as Assistant Director in June 2014 where my duties included scheduling rehearsals, liasing with the design team, support the director in research tasks and leading understudy rehearsals. I was in charge of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe run of the show (The Cellar, Pleasance Courtyard), guaranteeing a smooth run of the show, noting performances and reporting back to the director.

I subsequently was promoted to Associate Director for a Scotland Tour in Spring 2015 with shows at The Tron in Glasgow, Eden Court Theatre in Inverness as well as St Andrews, East Kilbride and Whithorn. My duties included liaising with venues, scheduling tech rehearsals, adapting the show to different spaces, oversee get in and outs and support the producer in marketing and PR work.
